Reflections on the ICSC Pacific Northwest Idea Exchange

The ICSC Pacific Northwest Idea Exchange took place on July 25th, 2108 at The Nines in Portland, Oregon. The event, which targets real estate professionals specializing in retail, offered a full day of programing and networking.

The event’s educational component gave participants an update on the market conditions, information about major players in retail, and trends to look out for in the coming months.

Howard Page, a Real Estate Manager at NAI Elliott said of the event:

My biggest takeaway is the continued adaptation of retailers (downsizing primarily) to meet customer demand to shop closer to home and the developers continued creation of the ‘village’ atmosphere and that ‘sense of place’ the architects talk about… Another takeaway was the importance of hiring specialty professionals to perform cost segregation audits. The information presented was helpful in understanding the process and the potential front-end tax savings after new construction, a purchase or remodel. Many NAI Elliott clients have had cost segregations analyses performed and applied with considerable benefit. Finally, Bitcoin apparently is here to stay. Cryptocurrency will grow in importance even though the concept is over my head at this point. I’ll never be a millennial, but that doesn’t mean we stop learning!

The NAI Global Pacific Northwest Region was proud to be one of the Platinum sponsors of this event. The group was featured prominently throughout the day, especially at the breakfast, where brochures were strategically placed to reach a large number of industry professionals. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for industry professionals to meet each other and to lay the foundations for future deals.
